Mosman home takes out prestigious award

Local company, Courtney & Wise was awarded
one of the painting industry’s top accolades
when it recently took out a 2006 Master
Painters Award for Excellence.

The Federation residence in Raglan Street
received top prize in the highly coveted and
prestigious category of ‘domestic repaint over
$20,000’. According to the judges the project
was undertaken with, “great attention to prepaint
preparation, with exceptionally neat cut
lines and application of coatings with difficult
access in some areas.”

Michael Peters accepted the award on behalf of
Courtney & Wise, a family business operating on
the North Shore since 1954. Michael is a
second generation, trade qualified painter and
personally supervised all aspects of the project.
Despite a long association with the Master
Painters Association, this was the first time
Courtney & Wise had submitted an entry in the
competition. “This acknowledgement by our
peers is a fantastic endorsement of the 50
years of mastery and commitment to painting
excellence that our company prides itself on”
says Michael.

In describing how Courtney & Wise approached
the project, Michael goes on to say “having not
been painted for some time, our clients wanted
a first class exterior makeover of an already
prestigious home. We wanted to be true to the
property, so a colour scheme was selected
which highlighted its traditional Federation
features, while taking into account a modern
extension to the rear. Due to its harbour
proximity, the preparation had to be meticulous
yet robust enough to ensure that all coatings
would withstand the pressures associated with
its location. We also had to overcome a number
of other challenges including difficult height and
access issues, all addressed to comply with
OH&S requirements. In the end, nothing was
compromised and we delivered a quality job
that our company is renowned for. But this was
only made possible by having clients who were
equally committed to receiving nothing short of
the best possible painting job.”
